WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington’s Mayor Mike Purzycki and City Finance Director Brett Taylor have issued reminders to residents living west of Interstate 95 holding a Residential Parking Permit (RPP). They remind locals that the time to renew the permits is now, with the current two-year permits set to expire on December 31, 2023.
Renewals can be done free of charge online, by fax, by mail, or in person at the Division of Revenue located on the first floor of the Louis L. Redding City/County Building on 800 North French Street. The office operates from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. Once renewed, the two-year permits will remain valid until December 2025.
In January, as part of Mayor Purzycki’s ongoing effort to streamline parking in Wilmington, the City introduced a new RPP program. This reduced the previous 26 residential parking zones, each with different renewal deadlines, to just two: East of Interstate 95 (renewal date of June 30) and West of Interstate 95 (renewal date of December 31). To eliminate confusion and missed renewals, the revamped RPP program extends the residential parking permit validity to two years upon each renewal instead of the previous one year.
“We were excited to launch the revised Residential Parking Permit (RPP) program at the beginning of this year,” said Mayor Purzycki. “By simplifying the process with 24 fewer deadlines and doubling the length of permit validity, RPP renewals have become much easier for residents and City personnel alike.”
The revised RPP program also reintroduced an optional parking permit sticker, which may be requested when renewing an RPP in person or by calling 311. This sticker can serve as a reminder to vehicle owners about when the permit needs to be renewed.
To further assist permit holders, two renewal notices will be sent: one 60 days prior to the renewal date and a second notice 30 days prior to expiration. For residents living east of Interstate 95, the current two-year permit will remain valid through June 30, 2024.
