Wilmington Police Arrest Suspect in Connection with October Shooting

WILMINGTON, DE — The Wilmington Police Department has announced the arrest of a man suspected of a shooting incident that took place in October.

In the early morning hours of October 17, at around 2:28 a.m., officers from the Uniformed Services Division were dispatched to the 700 block of North Washington Street following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival at the scene, police found a 30-year-old male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to the hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Detective Michael Hayman of the Criminal Investigations Division was assigned to the case. Through his investigation, Detective Hayman identified 41-year-old Brian Harker as a suspect in the shooting. Warrants were issued for Harker’s arrest based on the gathered evidence.

On November 30, members of the Drug, Organized Crime, and Vice Division arrested Harker without any incidents.

Harker now faces multiple charges including first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony (two counts), possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited (two counts), carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and first-degree reckless endangering.

Following his arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, Harker was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution. His bail has been set at $226,000 cash-only.

Information, a criminal complaint, or an arrest is not a declaration of guilt. A suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
