WILMINGTON, DE – A 25-year-old man was arrested by the Wilmington Police Department on gun charges following a traffic violation on November 30. Maurice Byrd, the accused, was apprehended without incident during a stop initiated by members of the Safe Streets Task Force.

Officers were patrolling the 900 block of North Pine Street around 10:53 p.m. when they observed a motor vehicle committing a traffic violation. They conducted a motor vehicle stop in the 600 block of Taylor Street and made contact with the driver, identified as Maurice Byrd.

Following a brief investigation, Byrd was taken into custody, and officers recovered a 9mm handgun. He has been charged with Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, an allegation that underscores the ongoing efforts of the Wilmington Police Department to curb gun-related crimes in the city.

Byrd was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 after his arrest. He was subsequently released on $1,000 unsecured bail.
