Wilmington Police Arrest Man on Drug Charges Following Vehicle and Foot Pursuit

WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have apprehended a man on drug charges following a vehicle pursuit and subsequent foot chase.

The incident began on March 1 at approximately 8:38 a.m., when members of the Traffic Unit attempted to stop a motor vehicle in the 2000 block of North Market Street. The vehicle reportedly fled the scene, only to be located a short time later in the 300 block of East 13th Street.

Upon sighting the suspect in the 200 block of East 14th Street, police reported that the individual attempted to escape on foot. Following a brief chase, 51-year-old Shawn Garrett was taken into custody without incident. Officers subsequently recovered 173 grams of cocaine and $1,430 in cash.

In addition to traffic violations, Garrett now faces several charges. These include possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver in Tier 3 quantity, two counts of second-degree reckless endangering, resisting arrest, disregarding a police officer’s signal, and hindering prosecution.

Garrett was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11. He has since been committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, with bail set at $51,000 cash-only.

As with all criminal cases, these are allegations and Garrett is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation is ongoing, and further details may emerge as it progresses.
