WILMINGTON, DE — In a notable breakthrough, the Wilmington Police Department has apprehended a 14-year-old male juvenile in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on West 8th Street last month. The suspect has been charged with several offenses, including first-degree assault and robbery.
On October 22, at approximately 6:02 p.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division were dispatched to the 1200 block of West 8th Street following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a 22-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was promptly transported to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
Detective James Rook of the Criminal Investigations Division was assigned to the case. Through diligent investigation, Detective Rook identified the 14-year-old male juvenile as a suspect and secured warrants for his arrest. The suspect was taken into custody without incident on November 3.
The juvenile now faces a series of charges that include first-degree assault, first-degree robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, criminal mischief under $1,000, and discharging a firearm on a city street.
Following his arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, the juvenile was committed to the New Castle County Juvenile Detention Center. His cash-only bail has been set at $130,200.
Information, a criminal complaint, or an arrest is not a declaration of guilt. A suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
