WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have arrested a man and a woman on multiple gun and drug charges after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of illegal substances and a firearm.
On the night of January 11, members of the Safe Streets Task Force were patrolling the 400 block of North Franklin Street when they observed a vehicle committing a traffic violation. Officers conducted a stop and identified the occupants as 43-year-old Jerry Smith and 29-year-old Alann Hutchinson.
Following a brief investigation at the scene, both Smith and Hutchinson were taken into custody without incident. Officers reportedly recovered a 9mm handgun, 8 grams of crack cocaine, .336 grams of heroin, 56.2 grams of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia from the vehicle. A subsequent search warrant executed at a residence in the 100 block of Greenridge Road led to the recovery of an additional 38 grams of crack cocaine, .497 grams of heroin, and further drug paraphernalia.
Smith faces a litany of charges, including three counts of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver in Tier 3 quantity, four counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, two counts of second-degree conspiracy, possession of a controlled substance in Tier 1 quantity, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and manufacture and sale of drug paraphernalia. Following his arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, he was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $74,103 cash-only bail.
Hutchinson has been charged with similar offenses, including three counts of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance in Tier 3 quantity, two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, two counts of second-degree conspiracy, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance in Tier 1 quantity, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and manufacture and sale of drug paraphernalia. She was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $64,350 cash-only bail.
