NEW CASTLE, DE — A Wilmington man was arrested and charged with multiple felonies following an alleged assault that took place Tuesday afternoon at a motel in New Castle, Delaware.

Delaware State Police responded to an assault report at the Superlodge motel, located at 1200 West Avenue, New Castle, around 12:27 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Upon arrival, troopers apprehended the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Anthony Garcia, without any incidents.

The ensuing investigation revealed that an employee of the Superlodge had asked Garcia and a 33-year-old woman, who were staying at the motel, to vacate their room on three separate occasions after their check-out time had expired. It is alleged that during the employee’s third request, Garcia brandished a knife and lunged at the employee. After a brief scuffle, the employee managed to escape Garcia, who reportedly approached him a second time with the knife. The employee received medical treatment at the scene for injuries to his hand.

Garcia was then transported to Troop 2, where he was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2. He was subsequently committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $76,000 cash bond.

The charges against Garcia include second-degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and aggravated menacing – all classified as felonies.

It is important to stress that these charges are allegations, and Garcia, like all accused individuals, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. An arrest or a criminal complaint does not constitute a declaration of guilt.
