WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have apprehended a local man on charges of gun possession and drug trafficking.

On the morning of January 23, around 10:06 a.m., police were dispatched to the 900 block of West 2nd Street following reports of a person with a firearm. Upon arrival, officers encountered 28-year-old Dawan Bell Jr. He was arrested without any resistance. A subsequent search revealed that Bell was allegedly in possession of a loaded .40 caliber handgun and roughly 29 grams of crack cocaine.

Bell now faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity.

Following his arraignment in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, Bell was remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution. His bail has been set at $33,000, payable in cash only.

As this case moves forward, it’s critical to bear in mind that an arrest does not constitute guilt. All suspects, including Bell, are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Information may change as the investigation continues.
