WILMINGTON, DE — A Delaware man has been taken into custody for his alleged involvement in an armed robbery at a local pizza establishment earlier this month, according to the Delaware State Police. Nigel Sykes, 33, of Wilmington, faces multiple felony charges following the incident at Pat’s Pizza.

The event unfolded on the night of March 10, 2024, around 10:12 p.m., when authorities were called to the scene at 1815 Philadelphia Pike. According to reports, an armed individual, later identified as Sykes, allegedly confronted an employee who was closing up for the night. The suspect, purportedly brandishing a handgun, demanded money from the business.

In addition to taking an undisclosed sum of cash, the assailant is accused of disabling the landline telephone by pulling its wire from the wall and taking the employee’s cell phone before fleeing the location. The suspect was last seen heading south on Philadelphia Pike.

Following a detailed investigation, Troop 2 Robbery Detectives identified Sykes as the suspect. A warrant was issued for his arrest, leading to his apprehension on March 19, 2024, at the Plummer Center in Wilmington. Sykes was subsequently charged with first-degree robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, and malicious interference with emergency communications.

After his arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 2, Sykes was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, with bail set at $106,000 cash bond.

It is important to note that these allegations are part of an ongoing legal process. A criminal complaint or an arrest does not equate to a declaration of guilt. All individuals, including Sykes, are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The case against Sykes will continue to unfold as it moves through the judicial system, offering him the opportunity to respond to the charges leveled against him.
