NEWARK, DE — A routine traffic enforcement operation on Interstate 95 led to the arrest of a Wilmington man on multiple felony drug charges on Monday afternoon, Delaware State Police reported. Demetre Dale, 27, was apprehended following a series of traffic violations that culminated in a search revealing suspected narcotics and paraphernalia.
The incident began shortly after noon on March 18, 2024, when a trooper patrolling the northbound lanes of I-95 near State Route 7 in Newark clocked a dark grey Honda Accord, driven by Dale, traveling at speeds exceeding 90 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. Observing additional traffic infractions, the trooper initiated a stop to address the violations.
Upon contact, Dale was found to have an outstanding capias from Newark Alderman’s Court 40, leading to his immediate arrest. A subsequent search of Dale’s person uncovered $655 in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug dealing, along with a plastic bag containing approximately 0.56 grams of heroin packaged in 80 baggies, 10.8 grams of crack cocaine, and 12 doses of suspected MDMA housed in a clear tube.
Further investigation of the vehicle yielded a digital scale from the center console, pointing to potential involvement in drug trafficking activities. Dale was transported to Troop 2, where he faced arraignment on charges including possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a tier 2 quantity, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (two counts), possession of a controlled substance in a tier 2 quantity, possession of drug paraphernalia, and multiple traffic violations. Justice of the Peace Court 2 set his bail at $46,650 secured.
As the legal process unfolds, it is crucial to remember that these allegations represent the beginning, not the conclusion, of the judicial journey. In accordance with the principles of American justice, Dale, like all individuals charged with a crime, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
