Wilmington Man Arrested, Extradited on Charges Related to 2023 Shooting

WILMINGTON, DE — The Wilmington Police Department has arrested a man in connection to a shooting incident that occurred in 2023.

On the afternoon of October 18, 2023, uniformed services responded to a call on the 900 block of Kirkwood Street. Upon arrival, they found a 77-year-old male with gunshot wounds inside a residence. The victim was immediately transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Detective John O’Connor Jr. of the Criminal Investigations Division was assigned to the case. Through his investigation, he identified 35-year-old Donte Wright as a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest. Wright was taken into custody on November 2, 2023, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He was extradited to Delaware on January 31, 2024.

Wright faces a series of charges, including attempted first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, suffocation, crime against a vulnerable adult, unlawful imprisonment, second-degree conspiracy, and criminal mischief over $1,000.

Following his arraignment in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, Wright was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $283,000 cash-only bail.
