CHESTER, PA — In a grand celebration of youthful leadership, Widener University, in collaboration with NBC10 and Telemundo62, recently announced the winners of the 13th annual Widener University High School Leadership Awards. This year’s awards recognized 137 exceptional high school juniors from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware for their outstanding leadership within their schools and communities.

The students, chosen for their courage to stand up for what they believe in and their commitment to making an impact in their communities, have collectively accumulated more than 700 hours of community service over the past year. They have achieved this remarkable feat while maintaining rigorous academic course loads and participating in numerous extracurricular activities. Many of them have also coached and mentored younger students and others in their communities.

Stacey Robertson, president of Widener University, expressed her pride in the winners. “These young individuals have demonstrated courage, tenacity, and leadership while embodying the principles that Widener holds dear,” she said. “We are delighted to honor these student leaders and look forward to their future accomplishments.”

The winners will be invited to an in-person program at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia’s historic district on Wednesday, March 20th. They will be recognized as young leaders, and if they choose to enroll at Widener as undergraduates, will participate in the university’s prestigious Apogee Leadership Scholars program. Alongside this, they will receive a $20,000 scholarship over four years and participate in four years of leadership programming, culminating in a Widener Leadership Certificate.

Ric Harris, President and General Manager of NBC10, Telemundo62, and NBC Sports Philadelphia, commended the partnership with Widener University and praised the award recipients. “These students are already making a difference today, as evidenced by their daily efforts to improve their schools and communities,” he said. “We are eager to witness their future successes in college and beyond.”
