PHILADELPHIA, PA — West Perry School District (WPSD) has implemented cutting-edge AI gun detection technology from ZeroEyes to bolster security across its campuses. This proactive step reflects the district’s commitment to ensuring a safe learning environment for its students, faculty, and staff.
ZeroEyes’ intelligent situational awareness software integrates with existing security camera systems to quickly identify visible firearms. If a potential threat is detected, images are analyzed by ZeroEyes’ Operations Center, staffed around the clock by military and law enforcement veterans. Once validated, alerts are dispatched in as little as 3 to 5 seconds, providing actionable intelligence to first responders and school personnel.
Located in Elliottsburg, Pennsylvania, WPSD serves approximately 2,100 students across five buildings and 325 square miles, making it the state’s seventh-largest district by land area. The district has long prioritized student safety, completing a comprehensive camera system upgrade last year and employing daily armed security personnel. Adding ZeroEyes’ AI technology builds on these measures by addressing the need for immediate threat detection and response in rural areas, where emergency response times can be longer.
Superintendent Jeff Kuhns noted that the adoption of ZeroEyes’ technology was made possible through a state grant and fills a critical gap in the district’s security strategy. Recent studies highlight the importance of such measures, with K-12 schools accounting for a significant share of gun-related incidents in Pennsylvania.
By ensuring rapid communication of critical information, including threat location and weapon details, ZeroEyes’ system helps reduce response times and mitigate potential harm. This initiative underscores WPSD’s dedication to fostering a secure environment where students can thrive academically and socially without fear.
With ZeroEyes, WPSD joins a growing number of institutions leveraging advanced security technology to address modern safety challenges head-on, setting a benchmark for school safety across the region.
