RAPHO TOWNSHIP, PA — Motorists in Lancaster County should prepare for a weekend closure on westbound Route 283 in Rapho Township. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that the closure is necessary to remove a section from the Strickler Road (Route 4045) bridge, which spans the highway.
The closure is scheduled to begin at 9:00 PM on Friday, November 17, and end no later than 6:00 AM on Monday, November 20, weather permitting. During this time, a detour will be in place for westbound motorists. Eastbound Route 283, however, will remain open throughout the weekend.
Westbound motorists on Route 283 are advised to exit at the Mount Joy/Route 230 Exit, then take Route 230 west through Mount Joy Borough to Cloverleaf Road. From there, they should turn right and proceed to the Cloverleaf Road Interchange and westbound Route 283.
The Strickler Road bridge had been closed to traffic since October following damage from a vehicle strike. The bridge will remain closed until further notice as PennDOT develops a repair plan. Updates on the repair schedule will be provided once available.
This closure is part of ongoing efforts by PennDOT to maintain and enhance the safety of the state’s roadways and bridges. Motorists are urged to exercise caution and patience during this time, and to plan their routes accordingly to avoid delays.
