RAPHO TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a planned weekend closure of westbound Route 283. This closure is necessary for the installation of beams on the Strickler Road (Route 4045) bridge, which spans the highway’s westbound lanes in Rapho Township, Lancaster County. The bridge has been closed since last October due to damage from a vehicle strike.
Weather permitting, the westbound lanes of Route 283 will be closed from 8:00 PM on Friday, August 9, until 6:00 AM on Monday, August 12. In case of rain, the closure will be postponed to the following weekend, from 8:00 PM on Friday, August 16, to 6:00 AM on Monday, August 19.
During the closure, motorists traveling westbound on Route 283 should exit at the Mount Joy/Route 230 Exit. They should then take Route 230 west through Mount Joy Borough to Cloverleaf Road, turn right, and proceed to the Cloverleaf Road Interchange to re-enter westbound Route 283.
Strickler Road currently has a detour in place using Route 772 (Mount Joy Road), Breneman Road, and Zink Road.
Ryland Construction Company, Inc., of Mount Wolf, is the contractor for this $652,696 project. All work is expected to be completed by October 11, 2024.
Motorists are advised to plan for extra travel time and remain alert for detours and slow-moving traffic in the area during the closure period.
