VILLANOVA, PA — Villanova University has inaugurated Drosdick Hall, the state-of-the-art facility that now serves as the new home for the College of Engineering. This $125 million expansion more than doubles the previous size of the college’s main building, marking a significant leap in the university’s commitment to engineering education and interdisciplinary research.
University President the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, described the opening as a “transformative moment” for the College of Engineering. He emphasized that Drosdick Hall provides “an exceptional environment for the next generation of Villanova engineers,” reflecting the university’s strategic priorities.
Drosdick Hall brings together all engineering departments under one roof, fostering innovation through its design. Dean Michele Marcolongo highlighted the building as a “crossroads of innovation,” enabling students and faculty to push boundaries and contribute meaningfully to society.
The facility boasts over 20 new laboratories designed for multidisciplinary research, a two-story innovation lab with advanced tools, and the Jones Family Student Learning Commons for community engagement. It also features green roofs equipped with smart systems for research and teaching.
This expansion is a tribute to John G. Drosdick, a Villanova alumnus and generous supporter, whose contribution significantly backed the project. Provost Patrick G. Maggitti noted that Drosdick Hall “inspires and supports the academic pursuits” of both faculty and students, solidifying Villanova’s stature in national engineering education.
Built in the Collegiate Gothic Revival style, the project began in Spring 2022 and was realized through collaboration with architects and builders dedicated to excellence. As students and faculty settle into this cutting-edge environment, Villanova University continues to position itself at the forefront of engineering innovation and education.
