PHILADELPHIA, PA — Independence National Historical Park has announced upcoming nighttime utility construction on Chestnut Street in Philadelphia. The work, scheduled under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit, is set to commence Monday, March 17, and will continue through April 11.
To facilitate construction activities, Chestnut Street will be closed and detoured Mondays through Thursdays from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, between 6th Street and 5th Street. Local access will be maintained up to the work zone. Drivers will be directed to use alternate routes, including 7th Street, Market Street, and 4th Street, to bypass the closure. Motorists are advised to plan for additional travel time, as traffic backups and delays are expected. Work remains weather dependent.
This project highlights necessary infrastructure upgrades within a vital area of Philadelphia, home to major historical landmarks. Upon completion, the construction will provide improved utility systems to better serve visitors and contribute to maintaining the functionality of a key public space in the city.
