CECILTON, MD — In its longstanding commitment to fostering educational advancement, the Upper Bay Ruritan Club has once again awarded scholarships to graduates of Bohemia Manor High School, continuing a tradition that spans over two decades. This fall, eight students received $1,000 each, a testament to the club’s dedication to nurturing the future leaders of America.

The scholarships, which are part of the club’s broader mission of community service and development, have significantly impacted the lives of recipients, enabling them to pursue various fields of study. Beneficiaries are delving into disciplines such as nursing, elementary education, psychology, and bioproduction, each aiming to contribute positively to the prosperity of Cecil County and beyond.

Among the distinguished scholarship recipients is Sarah Butkus, a Cecil College student working towards an English degree with aspirations of becoming a writer or podcast producer. Her academic journey underscores the importance of language proficiency as a cornerstone for future success, and she is eyeing Towson University as her next academic destination.

Also recognized is Kaiden McCleary, who has embarked on his first year in the nursing program at Cecil College. With plans to join the local healthcare landscape after completing his NCLEX certification, McCleary embodies the club’s vision of cultivating skilled professionals who will serve the community.

The Upper Bay Ruritan Club, part of a national network of service organizations, is deeply rooted in the ethos of “Fellowship, Goodwill, and Community Service.” Through initiatives like these scholarships, the club addresses local needs, empowering individuals while fostering community growth. As noted by Cecil College President Dr. Mary Way Bolt, the club’s generosity has been instrumental in supporting the college and its students over the years.

In partnership with the Cecil College Foundation, the club has contributed over $100,000 in scholarships, playing a pivotal role in the foundation’s broader achievement of distributing more than $500,000 to deserving students.

Looking ahead, the club is gearing up for its annual Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser, scheduled for Friday, November 1, at the Hacks Point Fire Company in Earleville, Maryland. This event is a crucial component of their fundraising efforts, with all proceeds going towards scholarships for local students. Tickets are priced at $15 for adults, $8 for children aged 6 to 12, and free for children under five.
