SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a continuation of night construction activities on Interstate 476 next week. This announcement pertains to two separate projects aimed at improving travel and safety along the interstate, its associated on-and-off ramps, and bridges in Delaware and Montgomery counties.
From Sunday, December 3, through Thursday, December 7, drivers can expect a single lane closure from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning. These closures will affect various sections of northbound and southbound I-476 between the I-76 and I-95 interchanges. The closures are necessary to facilitate bridge deck repair, inlet top replacement, and tree clearing operations.
In addition, lane closures are scheduled on MacDade Boulevard between I-476 and Fairview Road from Monday, December 4, through Thursday, December 7, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. This closure is to accommodate temporary median reconstruction.
Furthermore, the northbound I-476 ramp to westbound MacDade Boulevard will be closed for temporary barrier removal on Monday, December 11, and Tuesday, December 12, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning. During the closure, motorists are advised to use the northbound I-476 ramp to eastbound MacDade Boulevard, Fairview Road, and Route 320 (Chester Road).
Drivers are urged to allow extra time when traveling through these work areas due to potential significant backups and delays. All scheduled activities are subject to weather conditions.
These construction efforts are part of a $63.7 million project to resurface, repair, and improve nearly 17 miles of the interstate from Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County, to Interstate 95 in Ridley Township, Delaware County.
The barrier removal and temporary median reconstruction are components of a $16.2 million project designed to improve travel and safety on MacDade Boulevard and at the northbound I-476 and MacDade Boulevard Interchange in Ridley Township.
