KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — United BioSource LLC (UBC) has announced a strategic partnership with Osmind Inc. to enhance the delivery of psychiatric treatments by integrating Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) into electronic health record (EHR) workflows. This collaboration seeks to streamline processes, improving both compliance and patient care.
The partnership leverages UBC’s expertise in REMS and Osmind’s specialized EHR platform designed for mental health. Together, they aim to create a seamless system for REMS integration, based on the FDA-supported HL7® CodeX FHIR® Accelerator Community. This innovation addresses the common challenges faced in REMS programs, such as excessive administrative workload and data-sharing inefficiencies.
Nate Thompson, Chief Information Officer at UBC, emphasized the significance of the initiative: “We’re extremely happy to build on our continued commitment to, and investment in, the HL7 standards for the integration of REMS into prescriber workflows. This is an important initial step for standards adoption and for actualizing the promise of reduced burden, improved REMS compliance, and superior data quality.”
The integration aims to provide numerous benefits, including allowing prescribers to remain within their existing workflows when handling REMS documentation, thus lessening the need for additional data entry. This system intends to reduce operational overhead, enhance data quality, and improve process efficiency by integrating information directly from EHRs into the REMS database securely.
Natalie O’Donnell, Senior Vice President, Head of Safety and Risk Management at UBC, highlighted the potential impact of the partnership: “As the industry leader in REMS services and technology, we look forward to working with Osmind to shape the future of psychiatric drug development by providing seamless access to real-world data and insights, thereby accelerating the delivery of novel therapies for patients.”
Jimmy Qian, Co-founder and President at Osmind, expressed the need for such advancements in mental healthcare: “Innovation in mental health care is advancing rapidly. But a significant gap remains between research and real-world patient care. Partnering with UBC, alongside other technology leaders, allows us to streamline these processes, accelerate access to breakthrough therapies, and enable clinicians to focus more on patients in need.”
This collaboration marks a pivotal step in reducing the administrative burdens on healthcare providers, thus enabling them to spend more time on patient care and improving access to innovative psychiatric treatments.
