Two-Year Closure of Lombard Circle Ramp to Northbound I-95 Announced

Traffic Alert

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Beginning Monday, April 7, the Lombard Circle ramp to northbound I-95 at Penn’s Landing will close for approximately two years. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has confirmed that the closure is part of the $329 million I-95/CAP project aimed at replacing and upgrading the covered section of the interstate and improving connections between Center City and the Delaware River waterfront.

During the closure, motorists traveling on northbound Columbus Boulevard will be directed to use the northbound I-95 on-ramp at Summer Street. The detour is expected to accommodate traffic flow while construction crews undertake critical tasks, including removing the existing concrete pier adjacent to Columbus Boulevard and constructing new piers and foundations.

PennDOT has emphasized the significance of this project as a major effort to enhance transportation infrastructure and multi-modal access throughout the area. Drivers are advised to plan ahead, anticipate delays, and allocate extra travel time when navigating through the impacted region.

All construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to scheduling adjustments as necessary.
