Two Men Arrested in Wilmington on Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop

Arrested

WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have arrested two men on allegations of drug possession following a traffic violation, underscoring the city’s ongoing efforts to combat illicit substances.

On January 14, at approximately 11:25 a.m., officers from the Uniformed Services Division were patrolling the 200 block of North Franklin Street when they observed a traffic violation committed by a motor vehicle. Upon conducting a stop, two subjects attempted to exit the car and flee on foot.

The driver, 21-year-old Miguel Maldanado, and 22-year-old Shamar Wright, were promptly taken into custody without incident. A subsequent investigation led to the recovery of 165 grams of marijuana and $1,017 in cash.

In addition to traffic violations, Maldanado has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, possession of marijuana, and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and released on $4,500 unsecured bail.

Wright faces charges of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver and resisting arrest. After being arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, he was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $3,000 unsecured bail.

As is always the case, these charges are allegations, and they do not constitute a declaration of guilt. Both Maldanado and Wright, like all individuals facing charges, are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
