CHELTENHAM TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced the continuation of tree clearing operations next week as part of a broader project aimed at enhancing traffic flow and safety on Route 73 (Church Road) at the intersections with Greenwood Avenue and Rices Mill Road in Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County.
From Monday, August 19, through Friday, August 23, lane closures with flagging will occur on Greenwood Avenue at its intersection with Route 73 between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time due to anticipated delays and backups. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
The comprehensive project includes adding left turn lanes on Route 73 and a northbound right turn lane on Greenwood Avenue. Traffic signals on Route 73 at Greenwood Avenue and Rices Mill Road will be interconnected to improve efficiency. Additionally, a new stormwater management system will be installed, and the sidewalk along the north side of Route 73 will be extended from Rices Mill Road to Greenwood Avenue.
Environmental mitigation efforts include the removal and planting of trees, wood salvaging for repurposing, stone wall reconstruction, and re-vegetation of disturbed areas within the Curtis Arboretum.
Allan Myers, LP of Worcester, Pennsylvania, is the general contractor for this $10,824,555 project, which is entirely federally funded. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2027.
