LANCASTER, PA — Lancaster County District Attorney Heather Adams recently announced the appointment of former First Deputy District Attorney Travis Anderson as her First Assistant for the start of her second term. Anderson will replace Todd Brown, who has won a spot as Judge for the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas and will be leaving the office early next year.

Anderson currently serves as a Hearing Examiner for the Pennsylvania Department of State, adjudicating administrative hearings involving state agencies and licensing boards. “Travis Anderson brings a wealth of experience to this position,” says District Attorney Adams. “He combines prosecutorial experience with supervisory and administrative expertise, making him highly suitable for this critical role.”

Anderson is no stranger to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office, having served there from 2013 to 2022. During his tenure, he prosecuted hundreds of cases and handled numerous jury trials. He was promoted to the Major Crimes Unit in 2017, where he successfully prosecuted various violent crimes, including several high-profile homicides.

In addition to his work in the Major Crimes Unit, Anderson also served in the office’s Appellate Unit, handling complex appeals in both state and federal courts. As a supervisor of the Post-Conviction Relief unit from 2014 to 2019, he further showcased his leadership abilities.

Anderson’s management skills were put into practice when he served as First Assistant District Attorney on an interim basis from April 2019 to January 2020. He assisted in the transition to the current administration and was later promoted to serve as First Deputy District Attorney from 2020 to 2022. In this role, he supervised the office’s trial attorneys and was a part of the executive leadership team.

His contribution to the Lancaster County criminal justice system extends beyond the courtroom. Anderson worked with the Municipal Police Officers Educational and Training Commission (MPOETC) to develop annual training for police officers regarding changes in the law from 2020 to 2022. He also served as a MPOETC instructor for local police officers from 2016 to 2022.

Outside of his work with law enforcement, Anderson was an adjunct professor at Elizabethtown College, where he taught a trial-advocacy class and coached the mock-trial team from 2018 to 2022.

Before his time at the District Attorney’s Office, Anderson worked in the Office of Chief Counsel for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. He represented the DOC and its employees in civil litigation in both state and federal court.

Anderson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh and his juris doctorate from Widener University Commonwealth Law School. He currently resides in East Petersburg with his wife and two daughters.

“I am sincerely honored to have the opportunity to work with District Attorney Adams in this role,” Anderson said. “I look forward to rejoining my colleagues in the District Attorney’s Office and once again working with the dedicated and courageous members of Lancaster County’s law enforcement community.”

This appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office. As they welcome Travis Anderson to his new role, they continue their commitment to upholding justice and serving the community.
