BUCKS COUNTY, PA — In a vigorous push towards healthier and happier living, State Senator Steve Santarsiero announced, on Friday, a new health and well-being initiative called “Blue Zones Ignite Bucks Area”. This synergistic project, consummated by Santarsiero, the Bucks County Health Improvement Partnership (BCHIP), and Blue Zones, intends to enhance the quality of life of Bucks area residents in Pennsylvania.
Constructed with the backing of a state grant, the Blue Zones Ignite Bucks Area project’s objective is to conduct an exhaustive assessment of the Bucks area. The aim is to devise recommendations for infrastructure and policy enhancements that will optimally convert the area into a vibrant sphere for healthier living and growth.
“The Blue Zones model has the potential to revolutionize our community in a way that will enrich people’s lives, letting them flourish in health and longevity,” stated Senator Santarsiero, expressing his anticipation of the assessment phase and its forthcoming transformative plan.
The methodology of Blue Zones is derived from their extensive research over the past 25 years. Extracting insights on longevity, health, and happiness from the world’s longest-living communities, Blue Zones has successfully spread its influence across 75 communities nationwide.
The ‘Ignite phase’ will see Blue Zones examining the current health status of the Bucks area through community engagement and education, culminating in recommendations for a full-scale transformation.
Ben Leedle, CEO of Blue Zones, expressed his company’s excitement at joining forces with the Bucks area leaders, envisioning a robust and resilient future for the region. He highlighted that while investments in community-level well-being produce healthier, happier citizens, a more productive workforce, and a robust economy, it requires pioneering community leaders to unite and champion the cause.
The Blue Zones Ignite Bucks Area project will encompass a host of regions including Bristol Township, Bristol Borough, Falls Township, Tullytown Borough, Morrisville Borough, Lower Makefield Township, Yardley Borough, Newtown Township, Newtown Borough, and many more.
Kimberly Everett, BCHIP Executive Director, expressed her anticipation of identifying new opportunities and collaborations with Senator Santarsiero and the Blue Zone team that will enrich community health and wellbeing.
Following the kickoff announcement, the Blue Zones Ignite Steering Committee, comprising the area’s healthcare, educational, business, and community, and infrastructure planning leaders, convened for their first meeting.
Senator Santarsiero shared the palpable enthusiasm of community partners about this health assessment, noting the eagerness to start working together to uplift the community. The summer will see ongoing engagements with the residents of the 10th District to acquaint them with the initiative and solicit constructive feedback.
Senator Santarsiero plans to host a telephone town hall with BCHIP and Blue Zones on July 9th, inviting thousands of Bucks area residents to familiarize themselves with this transformative project. He encourages residents in the project area to register for the call.
