MIDDLETOWN, DEDelaware State Police are investigating a tragic motor vehicle collision that occurred Saturday evening, February 15, 2025, on Dupont Parkway (US-13) near Marl Pit Road. The crash claimed the life of a 58-year-old man and left two others injured.

At approximately 8:09 p.m., a Toyota Prius traveling northbound in the southbound left lane of the roadway collided nearly head-on with a Ford Mustang that was traveling southbound in the left lane. The impact involved the front left sides of both vehicles, causing significant damage to each.

The driver of the Toyota Prius, identified as Jonathan Edmond, 58, of Bear, Delaware, was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts by medical personnel, Edmond succumbed to his injuries. The Delaware State Police confirmed his identity Sunday morning.

The Ford Mustang carried two occupants. The driver, a 20-year-old man from Hartly, Delaware, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was released after being treated at a local hospital. The passenger, a 24-year-old woman from Smyrna, Delaware, also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized.

Preliminary findings from the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit indicate that the Toyota Prius was traveling against the flow of traffic in the southbound lanes prior to the crash. The reason for the vehicle’s presence in the opposing lane has not yet been determined.

Authorities arrived shortly after the incident, closing Dupont Parkway for approximately five hours to conduct a thorough investigation and clear debris from the scene. The investigation continues as law enforcement officials work to establish the circumstances leading to the fatal collision.
