Traffic Signal Work on Bethlehem Pike to Cause Delays Next Week

Lane Closure - Traffic Alert

SPRINGFIELD TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that traffic signal construction will continue next week as part of a safety improvement project on Bethlehem Pike in Springfield and Whitemarsh townships, Montgomery County.

From Monday, June 3, through Friday, June 7, lane closures are scheduled in both directions on Bethlehem Pike between Bells Mill Road and the Flourtown Shopping Center Driveway. The closures will occur from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Motorists should plan for extra travel time due to expected backups and delays. All scheduled activities depend on weather conditions.

Under this project, PennDOT aims to convert a four-lane section of Bethlehem Pike into a three-lane section with a two-way left-turn lane. The improvements also include modifying left-turn signal phasing, coordinating arterial signals, installing pedestrian countdown timers, adding retroreflective backplates, and milling and overlaying pavement.

The intersections involved in the project are at the Flourtown Shopping Center Driveway, Mill Road, College Avenue, Bysher Avenue, Wissahickon Avenue, Haws Lane, Montgomery Avenue, Sunnybrook Road, and Hillcrest Avenue.

Highway Materials, Inc., based in Flourtown, Pennsylvania, is the general contractor for this federally funded project. Construction is expected to be completed by this fall.
