Traffic Delays Expected Amid St. Joseph’s University Dorm Construction on U.S. 1

Traffic Restrictions

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A wave of construction is set to hit U.S. 1 (City Avenue) as St. Joseph’s University continues to build a new dormitory. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that the work is scheduled for next week, affecting traffic in Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County.

Starting Wednesday, February 14, and continuing through Wednesday, March 27, motorists should brace for periodic weekday traffic stoppages between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. In Lower Merion Township, these stoppages will affect southbound U.S. 1 (City Avenue) between Cardinal Avenue and Lapsley Lane. In Philadelphia, the stoppages will impact northbound U.S. 1 (City Avenue) between Cardinal Avenue and 59th Avenue.

These disruptions are necessary to ensure the safety of both the construction workers and the general public as the university embarks on this major improvement project. As any seasoned commuter knows, backups and delays are par for the course during such operations. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through these areas.

The construction is being undertaken by St. Joseph’s University under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit. As always, all scheduled activities are weather-dependent.
