PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced significant roadwork on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) as part of a comprehensive $100.6 million project aimed at rehabilitating the Wayne Junction Viaduct. This essential infrastructure overhaul will affect commuters traveling over the SEPTA tracks and through the Nicetown neighborhood of Philadelphia.
Today, September 13, from 6:00 PM until 11:00 AM on Saturday, motorists can expect periodic single and double lane closures on the southbound lanes of U.S. 1 between Henry Avenue and I-76. Additionally, the ramp from southbound U.S. 1 to westbound I-76 will be closed for paving operations, with traffic being rerouted via eastbound I-76, exiting at Montgomery Drive to access westbound I-76.
Further disruptions are scheduled from Monday, September 16, through Thursday, September 19, during the hours of 6:00 PM to 5:00 AM. These will involve lane closures on the southbound U.S. 1 for necessary expansion dam repairs. Moreover, on Thursday, September 19, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, both northbound and southbound lanes will see closures for line striping between I-76 and Henry Avenue.
Commuters should anticipate substantial delays and are advised to allocate extra travel time when navigating these areas. As with all construction projects, the timeline is subject to change based on weather conditions.
