WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — Motorists in Montgomery and Delaware counties should prepare for significant traffic adjustments as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) continues its comprehensive $63.7 million project to enhance nearly 17 miles of Interstate 476 and related infrastructure. This project, crucial for improving road safety and longevity, encompasses resurfacing, repair, and enhancement activities across I-476 and portions of I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway).
From Monday, November 4, to Friday, November 8, nighttime lane closures will be enforced from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM on both northbound and southbound sections of I-476, between the I-76 and I-95 interchanges. Concurrently, eastbound and westbound lanes of I-76 will experience similar closures between Matsonford Road and I-476. These measures are essential to accommodate paving, bridge repairs, and the installation of guiderails.
Motorists are advised to anticipate delays and allocate additional travel time to account for potential traffic backups. PennDOT emphasizes that all construction schedules are weather-dependent, urging drivers to remain informed of any changes.
The project involves milling and overlaying I-476 travel lanes and shoulders, repairing 49 structures, upgrading stormwater management systems, and enhancing existing signage and guiderails. These efforts aim to extend the design life of the highway, improve ride quality, and enhance road safety.
H&K Group, Inc. of Skippack, PA, serves as the general contractor for this federally funded initiative, with completion anticipated in late 2025. Travelers can check real-time road conditions via the MyChesCo Traffic Center to facilitate smooth navigation through work zones.
