Traffic Advisory: Lane Closures at Five-Points Intersection to Affect Montgomery County Commuters

Traffic Alert

MONTGOMERY TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has issued a traffic alert for motorists in Montgomery County, indicating that the next several months may see significant delays around the Five-Points Intersection. This notice comes as part of a $14.2 million project aimed at enhancing travel and safety where Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike), Route 463 (Horsham Road/Cowpath Road), and Business U.S. 202 (Doylestown Road) converge.

Effective immediately, drivers should anticipate alternating lane closures and shifts in traffic patterns from Monday to Friday, between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The areas affected include Route 309 between North Wales Road and McLaughlin Road, Route 463 between Lansdale Avenue and North Wales Road, and Business U.S. 202 between Route 309 and Betty’s Avenue.

These disruptions are necessary to accommodate the installation of additional through lanes and the widening of roadways at the intersection’s approaches. Upon completion, the intersection will boast 18 travel lanes, an increase from the current 15, significantly improving traffic flow and reducing the likelihood of crashes.

Additional enhancements will include upgraded signalization, the installation of sidewalks, ADA-compliant curb ramps, guiderails, and improved stormwater drainage. Adjustments to driveway access and efforts to reduce erosion sediment are also on the agenda.

Notably, the project aims to facilitate smoother traffic movement for westbound Route 463 motorists turning right onto northbound Business U.S. 202, among other improvements.

PennDOT urges commuters to allow extra travel time and exercise patience during these essential upgrades. All scheduled work is subject to change based on weather conditions, emphasizing the importance of staying informed about ongoing developments.
