NEW CASTLE, DE — The New Castle County Division of Police has arrested a Townsend man on allegations of possessing a large quantity of heroin. The arrest is part of an ongoing effort by law enforcement to combat the scourge of drug trafficking within the state.
Throughout February, detectives from the Safe Streets Task Force focused their efforts on 26-year-old Richard Ash, culminating in a raid on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. Responding to a residence on the 300 block of Airport Road in New Castle, detectives executed a search warrant that led to the discovery of 623 bags of heroin.
Mr. Ash was present during the search and was promptly taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the New Castle County Police headquarters, where he was charged with one felony count of manufacturing, delivering, or possessing with the intent to distribute a controlled substance in a tier 2 quantity.
Following his arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 11, Ash’s bail was set at $20,000 cash. It remains unclear whether he has retained a lawyer who could comment on the allegations.
This case is yet another example of the ongoing battle against drug-related crimes in Delaware. The state has seen a significant increase in drug-related incidents in recent years, leading law enforcement to ramp up their efforts in combating these crimes.
Heroin, specifically, has been a major concern for authorities as it continues to be one of the most commonly abused drugs in the state. Its highly addictive nature and availability on the street make it a dangerous substance that poses a threat to both individuals and communities.
As this case unfolds, it’s crucial to remember that the charges against Mr. Ash are merely allegations. An individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. As such, additional details may emerge that could alter the current understanding of the events that transpired.
