TINICUM TOWNSHIP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has declared a sudden closure of the Route 32 (River Road) bridge over the Delaware Canal in Tinicum Township, Bucks County. The decision followed a recent inspection that uncovered structural damage to the bridge due to vehicular crashes.
The Route 32 bridge, which spans the Delaware Canal, is a critical artery for local traffic. Built in 1932, the steel, stone masonry bridge is 46 feet long and 20 feet wide, carrying approximately 2,608 vehicles per day. Its closure will inevitably impact local traffic patterns and commute times.
According to PennDOT, during the closure, motorists who typically use Route 32 will be rerouted. The official detour will direct drivers to use Route 611 (Easton Road), Deep Run Road, Route 413 (Old Easton Road), and Dark Hollow Road.
The Route 32 bridge will remain closed indefinitely as PennDOT’s contractors perform the necessary repairs to ensure the bridge’s structural integrity and safety for motorists. The timeframe for these repairs is currently unknown.
