WILMINGTON, DE — The LYCRA Company has introduced its bio-derived LYCRA® EcoMade fiber, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional elastane, at the recent Kingpins Amsterdam event. This innovative fiber, made with QIRA® and sourced from renewable dent corn grown in Iowa, features 70% renewable content and promises a carbon footprint reduction of up to 44% compared to conventional LYCRA® fiber.
Scheduled for commercial launch later this year, the fiber can be seamlessly integrated into existing fabric production without re-engineering, ensuring the same dependable performance as traditional LYCRA® products. Arnaud Ruffin, vice president of brands and retail at The LYCRA Company, emphasized its importance, stating, “Bio-derived LYCRA® EcoMade fiber represents a significant step forward in providing sustainable solutions without compromising on quality.”
Denim samples featuring the new fiber were showcased at Kingpins Amsterdam alongside an immersive VR experience highlighting the fiber’s farm-to-fabric journey. Collaborations were also on display, including the “7 Styles for 7 Days” project with Diamond Denim of the Sapphire Group, demonstrating how bio-derived fibers can enhance sustainability in stretch denim. Turkish denim manufacturer ORTA presented its latest collection featuring the fiber paired with regenerative cotton, with designs already being adopted by premium brand AGOLDE.
The LYCRA Company also showcased its LYCRA FitSense® denim technology, first debuted in 2024, which integrates targeted shaping zones for personalized fit, further underlining the brand’s commitment to enhancing comfort and sustainability in the denim industry.
With these advancements, The LYCRA Company is driving the push for sustainable innovation in the fashion world while creating environmentally conscious solutions for manufacturers and consumers alike.
