PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Jazz Sanctuary, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing free live jazz performances to the Greater Philadelphia region, has announced the results of a record-setting fundraising campaign. Over a two-month match period, the organization raised $19,114 to support its mission, ensuring vibrant jazz performances remain accessible to the community through 2025.
“Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we successfully raised $9,557 during our match period—every dollar of which will be matched,” said Alan Segal, Founder and Executive Director of The Jazz Sanctuary. “This support allows us to continue bringing live jazz performances to the community. While February is a lighter month for us with just three events, we’re actively expanding our schedule, aiming to grow from 33 events to at least 50 this year.”
February Performances
The Jazz Sanctuary will perform three free concerts throughout the region in February, offering music lovers the chance to experience live jazz in intimate venues at no charge. Each performance will feature The Jazz Sanctuary Quintet, showcasing the talents of James Dell’Orefice (piano), Eddie Etkins (saxophone), Leon Jordan Sr. (drums), Alan Segal (bass), and Randy Sutin (vibes/percussion).
- Thursday, February 13 – Trinity Episcopal Church (Routes 202 & 413, Buckingham, PA). “Jazz & Joe” begins at 7:30 p.m., offering 90 minutes of live music, coffee, and refreshments.
- Wednesday, February 26 – Episcopal Church of the Incarnation (1505 Makefield Rd., Morrisville, PA). Another session of “Jazz & Joe” starts at 7 p.m., featuring a 90-minute set.
- Thursday, February 27 – Gloria Dei (Old Swedes’) Episcopal Church (8 Christian St., Philadelphia, PA). The final February performance begins at 7:30 p.m., running for two hours.
Each event is free and open to the public, continuing The Jazz Sanctuary’s mission to make live music accessible to all.
Growing Impact
The Jazz Sanctuary, now in its 14th year, relies on contributions from over 100 individual donors as well as corporate sponsors, including Compass Ion Advisors, Philadelphia Federal Credit Union, Quantum Think, and DMG Global. Its impact extends beyond the music, fostering community connection through shared experiences.
Segal explained that the music is meant to bring warmth to the community during the winter season and expressed hope that everyone will attend one of their upcoming performances.
With plans to significantly expand its calendar of free events this year, The Jazz Sanctuary is committed to enriching lives and strengthening communities through the power of live jazz.
