EAST HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that temporary traffic signals will be installed at the intersection of Centerville Road and Marietta Avenue (Route 23) in E. Hempfield Township, Lancaster County. The installation is scheduled to take place from 7:00 PM on Monday, December 11, to 6:00 AM on Tuesday, December 12, weather permitting.
During this period, the existing traffic signals will be removed and replaced by new ones. Initially, the new signals will flash, and flaggers will direct traffic through the intersection until the signals are fully functional. Motorists are advised to stay alert and exercise caution while driving through the intersection during this time.
This work forms part of the broader Centerville Road Interchange Improvement project, a comprehensive initiative aimed at enhancing road safety and traffic flow in the area. The project involves various improvements, including structure replacement, Superpave overlay, base replacement, roadway widening, milling, guiderail improvements, drainage improvements, pavement markings, ADA improvements, and traffic signal enhancements.
The project spans Centerville Road from Cornerstone Drive to Marietta Avenue (Route 23), and Marietta Avenue from Centerville Road to Stony Battery Road. While most of the project is located in East Hempfield Township, the section from Cornerstone Drive to Columbia Avenue falls within Manor Township.
JD Eckman, Inc., a construction company based in Atglen, PA, is the prime contractor for this $36.3 million project. The project is expected to be completed by July 22, 2025.
