PHILADELPHIA, PA — The forthcoming Memorial Day Weekend promises to be a memorable one as Chickie’s & Pete’s teams up with the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) and Atlantic City Expressway to kick-start the summer. The popular establishment will be shouldering toll costs for all eastbound drivers at the Egg Harbor Toll Plaza on May 24, 2024, between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
The day also ushers in a period of family merriment starting from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at Farley Plaza. Attendees can expect to receive complimentary orders of Chickie’s & Pete’s world-famous Crabfries and also get to partake in an outdoor celebration featuring free food and beverages from well-known brands like Hershey’s Ice Cream, Mars, and Carlo’s Bakery.
Chairman and CEO of Chickie’s & Pete’s, Pete Ciarrocchi, describes “Free Toll Friday” as a cherished summertime tradition, a fitting way to express gratitude to supporters while heralding the arrival of summer.
“Free Toll Friday is one of my favorite summertime traditions,” said Ciarrocchi. “It’s a great way to thank all those who have supported us over the years and kick off the summer in a fun way. It also signifies the official start to summer!”
This year, Chickie’s & Pete’s seeks to make the holiday even more meaningful by partnering with The Patriot Fund, a charity dedicated to assisting veterans reintegrate into society after active duty. Customers are encouraged to grab a “Patriot Punch” cocktail; part of the proceeds goes directly to The Patriot Fund.
Besides the allure of free tolls, visitors can anticipate an array of exciting activities. The Chickie’s & Pete’s Food Truck will be on-site, as will food service operator Applegreen, and Monster Energy Drink, among others. WlP Sports Radio and WPHT 1210 Talk Radio will provide live entertainment, and Ron’s Gardens of Hammonton will delight nature lovers with fresh regional produce.
The SJTA’s environmental initiative, READI, will be on the ground showcasing their wildlife and conservation programs, and The Funny Farm will bring along animals for a meet and greet experience. A Sidewalk Chalk Fun Zone is also in the offing for budding artists.
In view of the community spirit, various regional businesses, artisans, and vendors will be featuring their wares. This includes Atlantic Cape Community College, Comcast, AtlantiCare, and local merchants selling an assortment of items from jewelry to clothing.
The Hero Campaign will be showcasing two HERO Patrol Cars, and classic car enthusiasts will have a space in the designated Cruise Lot.
Finally, visitors can pay respects at the Farley Plaza’s 9/11 memorial and marvel at the 22-foot brass replica of the Battleship New Jersey.
SJTA Executive Director Stephen F. Dougherty is excited for what this event promises. “We’re thrilled to roll out the red carpet for our annual 100 Days of Summer party and invite those visiting Atlantic City and the breathtaking vacation spots along the South Jersey shore to make the most of our service plaza amenities,” said Dougherty.
