GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA — Gwynedd Mercy University has announced the appointment of Stephen Grieco, DMA, as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, effective June 1. Grieco brings more than 25 years of higher education experience to the role, including leadership positions across academic and student affairs.
Most recently, Grieco served as Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs at Eastern New Mexico University at Roswell, where he implemented initiatives to improve student outcomes and support underserved communities. His career has strong ties to the Philadelphia region, previously holding positions at Montgomery County Community College, Cabrini University, and the Community College of Philadelphia.
“I am honored to join GMercyU as its new Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, and committed to fostering an environment of academic excellence, innovation, and respect for all members of the University community,” said Grieco. “I look forward to collaborating with GMercyU’s dedicated faculty, staff, and students to advance the University mission and make a meaningful impact together.”
Gwynedd Mercy University President Deanne H. D’Emilio, JD, praised Grieco’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation. “He will play an integral role in the development and launch of new academic programs that will help us achieve our vision to be the Catholic University leader in professional and healthcare education,” said D’Emilio.
Grieco’s appointment coincides with significant developments at GMercyU, including the fall 2025 opening of the Frances M. Maguire ’55 Healthcare Innovation Center. The center will focus on interprofessional patient care and technology integration to improve healthcare outcomes while addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals. Other campus enhancements include renovated residential spaces, upgraded athletic facilities, and new dining options.
A dedicated academic and accomplished composer, Grieco earned his Doctor of Musical Arts from Arizona State University and has actively contributed to advancing education throughout his career.
Looking ahead, Gwynedd Mercy University envisions Grieco playing a pivotal role in guiding the institution’s growth and innovation, especially in shaping impactful programs aligned with the University’s mission and commitment to excellence.
