PHILADELPHIA, PA — St. Joseph’s University is continuing construction on its pedestrian bridge on U.S. 1 (City Avenue) in Philadelphia. However, this necessary work will cause a significant traffic shift, affecting motorists for almost two weeks.
Starting Saturday, January 6, and continuing through Friday, January 19, a round-the-clock traffic shift is scheduled on northbound U.S. 1 between Cardinal Avenue and Lapsley Lane. This means that traffic patterns will change, and drivers should prepare for potential backups and delays when traveling through this area.
As with any construction project, these plans are weather-dependent, meaning that severe weather could potentially alter the schedule. In such cases, further updates will be provided to keep the public informed.
This improvement project is being undertaken by St. Joseph’s University under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit. This permit allows the university to carry out improvements within the highway’s right-of-way.
The ongoing construction aims to enhance safety and accessibility for its students and staff, as well as the local community.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys when passing through the affected area over the next two weeks.
