YARDLEY, PASplashblocker, LLC has been honored with the 2024 James D’Arcy JOEH Research Article Award for its pivotal study, “Reducing the particles generated by flushing institutional toilets. Part II.” The research highlights the effectiveness of the Splashblocker device in drastically minimizing harmful toilet plume aerosols (TPA) by 99.98% in hospital settings, regardless of toilet type or location.

The award, presented by the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene (JOEH) in collaboration with the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and the Michigan Industrial Hygienist Society, recognizes the year’s best research published in JOEH. The winning study will be formally acknowledged at the AIHA annual conference in May.

Seth Eisenberg, OCN, BMTCN, lead author of the study, along with corresponding author Dr. Changjie Cai from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, focused on mitigating risks associated with TPAs, which can carry infectious pathogens and hazardous drugs, posing a threat to healthcare workers and patients.

“We are incredibly proud that the rigorous scientific research supporting the Splashblocker has been recognized with this distinguished national award,” said Brian P. Crawford, CEO and Co-Founder of Splashblocker. He emphasized the product’s role in enhancing healthcare safety by creating a safer environment for both staff and patients.

Eisenberg described the award as “a tremendous honor,” highlighting the device’s critical contributions to hospital safety. Dr. Cai added, “This award showcases the significance of our findings and the potential for the Splashblocker to reduce exposure risks.”

The study involved 17 clinicians across 15 U.S. hospitals, whose contributions were instrumental in demonstrating the technology’s real-world impact. Splashblocker, LLC regards this achievement as a milestone in its mission to revolutionize safety standards in healthcare environments.
