WARRINGTON, PA — Warrington Township Police Department has lodged a criminal complaint against a Southampton man over allegations of wallet theft. Robert Scott Hardcastle, 52, is accused of taking a wallet that was inadvertently dropped by a customer at a Lowe’s store on Easton Road.
The incident took place on January 18, 2024. According to police reports, the victim dropped her wallet at the self-checkout counter around 1:19 P.M. Surveillance footage showed that just a minute later, Hardcastle allegedly picked up the wallet and concealed it on his person.
Hardcastle then reportedly went to the customer service desk for an unrelated matter and remained there for approximately fifteen minutes. At no point during this time did he attempt to turn in the wallet, according to the police report.
Officers responded to Hardcastle’s residence later that day, around 5:08 P.M. After being requested by the police, Hardcastle handed over the wallet.
The Warrington Township Police Department has since filed a criminal complaint at the District Court. The charges in the complaint, like all criminal charges, are merely allegations. Hardcastle, like all individuals facing potential criminal charges, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
As the case proceeds through the legal system, more details may emerge that could change the current understanding of the events. Residents are encouraged to respect the process and remember that all defendants have the right to a fair trial. Further updates on this case will be provided as they become available.
