Solesis to Establish New Manufacturing Site in Costa Rica, Enhancing Global Medical Device Supply Chain

Solesis

TELFORD, PA — Solesis, the parent company of Secant Group, Polyzen, Charter Medical, and SanaVita Medical, recently announced plans to build a new manufacturing facility in Costa Rica. This move marks the first time the company will have a dedicated site for producing implantable textile components, polymer-based devices and components, and single-use technologies.

The decision to set up operations in Costa Rica is strategic. The country is recognized as a global hub for medical device manufacturing, and many of Solesis’ customers already have established manufacturing operations in the region. By expanding its footprint in this key location, Solesis aims to strengthen its global capacity and optimize resources to provide customers with comprehensive business continuity avenues that mitigate supply chain risks.

“Expanding into Costa Rica will significantly increase our global capacity, enabling us to rapidly expand and optimize our resources,” said Jeff Robertson, Chief Operating Officer of Solesis. “We look forward to continued collaboration with our customers who already have established manufacturing operations in this region.”

The new facility, scheduled to begin operations in spring 2025, will be located in the Greenpark Free Trade Zone – the first industrial park and Free Trade Zone in Latin America that is environmentally sustainable. The site will feature cleanrooms to produce high-quality healthcare solutions critical to customers and the patients they serve.

Lindsay Walker, Vice President of Human Resources at Solesis, expressed excitement about becoming part of the San Jose community. “This expansion is a significant milestone for Solesis,” she said. “We are excited to work with the strong talent pool that lives in Costa Rica and plan to announce which roles we will be recruiting for in the latter half of 2024.”

Costa Rica’s Minister of Foreign Trade, Manuel Tovar, welcomed Solesis’ decision to establish a facility in the country. He pointed out that the country’s leadership, talent pool, and reputation in the precision and medical equipment sector, which accounted for 42% of the country’s exports in 2023, have inspired confidence in companies like Solesis.

The Solesis expansion comes at a time when the global medical device industry is experiencing rapid growth and innovation. The move is expected to further strengthen Solesis’ position as a leading provider of technologies and therapies for next-generation patient care while boosting Costa Rica’s standing as a key player in the global medical device supply chain.
