PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia’s East Passyunk Avenue will host the 3rd Annual Hot Chocolate Crawl on Saturday, December 14, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering a lineup of custom cocoa creations, holiday specials, and live entertainment. Nearly two dozen eateries, bars, and cafes along the famed food street will serve classic, premium, boozy, and ice cream-infused cocoa options, starting at $3.

Tickets to the event include a souvenir 12oz mug or an exclusive insulated martini glass, with prices at $12 and $20, respectively. Participants will enjoy access to discounted cocoa prices and a variety of offerings from local businesses. Live holiday performances by East Passyunk Opera Project will add to the festive atmosphere, with Christmas carols and seasonal tunes performed throughout the day.

“We created the Passyunk Ave. Hot Chocolate Crawl to bring the community together and support our small, local businesses during the holiday season,” said Capri Dessecker, event co-organizer and founder of the crawl. “This year marks our third crawl, and each year the event grows larger and more exciting. Our new insulated martini glass option adds a fun twist for those indulging in the boozy variations.”

Over two dozen participating eateries will feature cocoa specials, including establishments like B2 Cafe, Ground Up Coffee, P’unk Burger, and Townsend Wine Bar. Boozy and ice cream-infused cocoa options will also be available, with creations catered to both adults and children alike.

“Break out your cutest scarf, warm mittens, and cozy up on the Avenue,” added co-organizer Elissa Kara of Nice Things Handmade. “This is more than just a holiday crawl—it’s a way to shop small, sip local, and enjoy unique cocoa blends while celebrating the season with your neighbors.”

The event’s history dates back to 2022, originating as a way to drive attention to South Philadelphia businesses during the pandemic. It has since become a seasonal staple, with tickets selling out in previous years. This year will see even more mugs available to meet increasing demand.

Live music will accompany the crawl, with participating businesses hosting performances indoors and outdoors. Additionally, boutiques and retailers along East Passyunk Ave. will join in, offering festive sales, promotions, and surprises. Promotions include Mecha Chocolate’s 10% discount on hot chocolate mix and Occasionette’s complimentary hot cocoa stick with a $10 purchase.

To cap off the day, visitors can head to the nearby Miracle on South 13th Street, a celebrated South Philly holiday tradition featuring stunning lights and decorations from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Passyunk Ave. Hot Chocolate Crawl is presented by RE/MAX One Realty, the Capri Dessecker Team, and sponsors like Milk Jawn and CENTURY 21 Forrester Real Estate. Tickets can be purchased in advance, with mug pick-ups available in advance or on the day of the crawl.

Participants are encouraged to reserve their mugs early as the event’s limited-edition items tend to sell out quickly. Bundle up and join this festive crawl to kick off a season of holiday cheer while supporting local Philadelphia businesses.
