PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Serve Philadelphia VISTA program is extending an invitation to Philadelphians interested in a career that combines public service with personal growth. The program will be hosting three Open Houses where potential applicants can learn more about the opportunities on offer and the application process for the 2024-25 service term.

Serve Philadelphia VISTAs are AmeriCorps members who devote their full-time service, defined as 30 hours per week, to a City of Philadelphia department. Each member works on unique projects, but all are united in their mission to combat the root causes of poverty and social injustice.

Wondering what the day-to-day work of a VISTA looks like? Uncertain about how to apply? These are precisely the kind of questions the program hopes to answer at the upcoming Open Houses. Current VISTA members and staff will be on hand to provide insights into the program and share their own experiences.

The Open Houses will take place on:

  • Monday, March 4, from 1–2 p.m. (in-person)
  • Wednesday, March 27, from 11 a.m.–12 p.m. (virtual)
  • Tuesday, April 23, from 9:30–10:30 a.m. (in-person)

Each Open House will be followed by a two-hour session during which attendees can ask additional questions and receive assistance with their applications.

For those who aspire to make a difference in their community while developing valuable career skills, the Serve Philadelphia VISTA program presents a remarkable opportunity. The program offers a chance to engage in meaningful work that directly impacts Philadelphians, particularly those affected by poverty.

Service in the VISTA program not only provides an avenue for contributing to the community but also offers a platform for personal and professional development. Members gain hands-on experience in public service, acquire valuable skills, and build relationships that can open doors to future opportunities.
