Senior Helpers

EPHRATA, PA — Senior Helpers of Lancaster County has become the first private duty in-home care provider in the U.S. to achieve the prestigious Age-Friendly Care at Home certification from the Community Health Accreditation Partners (CHAP). This milestone, announced on August 26, 2024, underscores the organization’s dedication to delivering exceptional care for older adults.

Teresa Harbour, COO of CHAP, expressed admiration for Senior Helpers’ proactive efforts. “Senior Helpers’ achievement as the pioneering Age-Friendly Care certified home care organization is truly remarkable. Their proactive approach in implementing numerous tools to enhance care for older adults, even before receiving the AFC certification, speaks volumes about their commitment to excellence.”

Senior Helpers’ commitment is further demonstrated through innovative programs like the LIFE Profile assessment tool, Senior Gems® program, and Center of Excellence training spaces. These initiatives aim to reduce hospitalization risks, provide specialized dementia care, and offer real-world training for caregivers.

LIFE Profile uses data-driven insights to assess clients’ health risks, while Senior Gems® offers tailored strategies for dementia care. The Center of Excellence provides a simulation environment for caregivers to refine their skills, ensuring the highest quality of care is delivered.

Kent and Rebekah Terry, owners of the Lancaster County franchise, emphasized the significance of this certification. “It is an honor to be the first franchise in the country to attain this certification. Our decision to voluntarily pursue this certification further demonstrates our dedication to providing a higher standard of care throughout Lancaster County.”

The Age-Friendly Care at Home certification focuses on the 4Ms framework: What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility. This approach ensures care is centered around clients’ preferences, safe medication practices, mental health support, and maintaining mobility.

Senior Helpers of Lancaster County continues to elevate care standards, offering services such as chronic disease management, Alzheimer’s and dementia care, transportation assistance, and end-of-life support. This certification highlights their commitment to helping seniors age in place with dignity and quality of life.
