BUCKS COUNTY, PA — In a recent announcement, Pennsylvania’s Senator Steve Santarsiero (D-10) confirmed that Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Solebury Township, Bucks County, will receive $45,617 for significant security enhancements. The funds are provided through the Non-Profit Security Grant Program of the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD).
The move is aimed at fostering a safer environment for worshippers, reinforcing the principle of religious freedom. “Freedom of religion means no one should fear for his or her safety while observing their faith,” emphasized Senator Santarsiero. He further highlighted the significance of these funds for the local community and church congregants.
The funds earmarked for the historic church, founded in 1811 as the Solebury Presbyterian Church, will be directed towards installing security cameras and upgrading building doors with enhanced locks and key fob entry systems.
Expressing her gratitude, Pastor Stephanie Templin Ashford said, “We are so grateful for the resources provided by our State to help protect this precious place of worship and to allow it to be a safe space for all of God’s people. Thank you!”
The Non-Profit Security Grant Program, under the aegis of the PCCD, administers funds to non-profit organizations primarily serving individuals, groups, or institutions that fall within a bias motivation category for single-bias hate crime incidents. This allocation to Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church aims to promote safe spaces for diverse communities.
