Senate District Seventeen Receives Over $4.3M in Funding for Critical Water Infrastructure Projects

Funds

NORRISTOWN, PA — The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) has approved a substantial $4,378,752 funding for eight infrastructure projects located within Pennsylvania’s Senate District Seventeen. The funds, aimed at water infrastructure, stormwater management, and sewer systems, were granted in a meeting held by the CFA on Tuesday.

Created in 2004, the CFA operates independently under the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) to manage Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus packages. The funding granted on Tuesday will be allocated through two programs: the COVID-19 ARPA PA Small Water & Sewer program and the COVID-19 ARPA H2O PA – Water Supply, Sanitary Sewer and Storm Water Projects program.

Senator Amanda M. Cappelletti (SD-17) emphasized the importance of these investments. “As we see an increase in flooding around our communities, investing in our storm water and sewer systems is a long-term solution to protect our homes, our properties, and our region,” she said.

Several municipalities in Montgomery County will benefit from this funding, including Lower Merion Township, Norristown Borough, East Norriton Township, and West Conshohocken Borough. These areas, which suffered significant damage during Hurricane Ida, are in dire need of investments into their water management systems.

Representative Tim Briggs (HD-149) lauded the funding as a strategic investment in the county’s infrastructure, directly addressing critical needs in regional water systems.

The funding will be distributed as follows:

Under the COVID-19 ARPA H2O PA program:

  • Lower Merion Township will receive $1,000,000 for the Belmont Pump Station Sewage Pump Project, which aims to replace three sewage pumps.
  • Norristown Municipal Waste Authority will get $468,225 for the WWTP Flood Resiliency Improvements Project, which involves replacing and relocating wastewater treatment plant equipment.
  • East Norriton Township will receive $1,342,038 for the Sardaro Lane Storm Sewer Infrastructure Project, aimed at making storm water infrastructure improvements.

Under the COVID-19 ARPA PA Small Water & Sewer Grants program:

  • Lower Merion Township will receive $500,000 for the Sanitary Sewer Lining Project, which will fund sanitary sewer repairs.
  • Norristown Storm Water Authority will get $467,800 for the Norristown Storm Water Authority Storm Sewer Improvements Project.
  • West Conshohocken Borough will receive $83,980 for the Church Street Storm Water Improvements Project.
  • East Norriton Township will get $266,709 for the Pierce Road Basin Retrofit Project, aimed at retrofitting a storm water basin.
  • Haverford Township will receive $250,000 for the Sanitary Sewer Main Crossing – Naylors Run Creek Project, aimed at improving its sanitary sewer system.

These projects aim to improve the region’s resilience against extreme weather conditions and ensure the sustainability of vital public services.
