PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a series of bridge inspections set to take place on several key highways, including Interstate I-95 and I-76, across Philadelphia and Montgomery County. These critical evaluations are part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and integrity of the region’s infrastructure.
Motorists traveling through Philadelphia will face travel restrictions beginning Monday, April 15, with a right lane closure on eastbound I-76 between the Girard Avenue and Spring Garden interchanges slated for 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM. Similar short-duration closures will continue throughout the day on westbound I-76 and extend into the week with varying restrictions on I-95, impacting both northbound and southbound lanes at different times and locations.
In Montgomery County, inspections will commence on Tuesday, April 16, with a right lane closure on northbound I-476 between the I-76 and Ridge Pike interchanges, affecting traffic in West Conshohocken Borough and Plymouth Township. Additional moving lane closures are scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, and Thursday, April 18, on the westbound I-76 ramp to U.S. 202, as well as on I-76 and the U.S. 202 ramp to eastbound I-76 in Upper Merion Township.
These necessary inspections are expected to cause temporary traffic disruptions, and PennDOT advises drivers to allow extra time for their commutes through the affected areas. The department emphasizes that the safety of the traveling public is paramount and that these inspections are essential for assessing the condition of the bridges and ensuring they remain safe for use.
All scheduled inspection activities are contingent upon favorable weather conditions, and any changes to the schedule will be communicated to the public.
As the region prepares for these forthcoming inspections, PennDOT is reminding motorists to exercise caution when traveling through work zones.
