DELAWARE — Santa Claus made a unique entrance at the Indian River Marina on Tuesday. Escorted by Delaware Natural Resources Police officers and welcomed by DNREC Secretary Shawn M. Garvin, Santa arrived by police boat bearing a massive collection of toys. The gifts, generously donated by the public and DNREC staff, are destined for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign.
The initiative aims to spread holiday cheer among children across Delaware whose families might face challenges with holiday gift-giving. This year’s bounty collected by Delaware Natural Resources Police – comprising Fish and Wildlife Natural Resources Police, Natural Resources Police Park Rangers, and DNRP Environmental Crimes Unit – was impressive. The collection included 13 bicycles and a variety of toys ranging from sports equipment, science kits, building kits, dolls, stuffed animals to games.
In total, Santa’s delivery filled 17 containers and 18 bags. Once collected, the Delaware Natural Resources Police promptly transported the donations to local Toys for Tots locations. The timely distribution ensures that these gifts will bring smiles to the faces of children just in time for the holidays.
DNREC Secretary Shawn M. Garvin expressed his gratitude towards all those who contributed to the cause. “It’s heartwarming to see such generosity from our community. These donations truly embody the spirit of the season and will undoubtedly make the holidays brighter for many children across our state,” he said.
This event underlines the commitment of Delaware’s Natural Resources Police and DNREC to not only protect and manage the state’s natural resources but also to contribute positively to the community. Their efforts, along with the generosity of the public, have ensured that the magic of the holiday season will reach numerous children across Delaware.
