PHILADELPHIA, PA — Saint John’s Hospice (SJH), a vital ministry of Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, is actively fundraising for its annual “Boot Up Philly” event scheduled for Saturday, October 19, 2024. This year, SJH aims to raise $175,000 to support its mission.
The “Boot Up Philly” event is designed to provide essential cold-weather items, such as new boots, coats, and underwear, alongside food and access to community services like legal aid and medical support, to over 1,000 individuals and families. Barry Martin, Program Director at SJH, emphasized, “Together we can ensure that no one in our community faces the hardships of winter alone.”
In the previous year, the event successfully raised over $130,000 and distributed thousands of cold-weather necessities to nearly 900 attendees. This year, the funds will again go towards purchasing vital items for those in need, preparing them for the upcoming winter.
Founded in 1963, SJH continues its legacy of helping those experiencing homelessness and poverty in Philadelphia. The organization supports approximately 150 individuals moving towards independent living annually, serves meals to over 200 community members daily, provides mailroom services for more than 1,700 people, and offers case management and healthcare services.
